Les triplettes de Belleville: An orphaned boy, Champion, is raised by his grandmother, Madame Souza. Her gift of a tricycle starts a craze for cycle-racing that becomes the cornerstone of their life together. After years of relentless training, Champion makes it to the Tour de France, the toughest cycling event in the world. Alas, Champion and a handful of other top competitors are mysteriously kidnapped by a pair of sinister crooks with hangdog expressions. Supported by her faithful sidekick, her fat and flatulent dog Bruno, Madame Souza sets off to rescue her beloved Champion. An epic adventure leads them across the Atlantic to a vast seaport metropolis named Belleville, headquarters of the notorious French mafia. Lost and confused in the threatening darkness of the great city, Madame Souza and Bruno encounter the Belleville Triplettes, who, in their youth, were a glamorous close-harmony act. Now, these three batty old women are now a bizarre jazz combo. Mme Souza joins the band. At their very first gig, she discovers Champion is being held captive by the mafia Godfather himself! All hell breaks loose, and the chase is on! Do Mme Souza, her dim dog, and the Triplettes have what it takes to outsmart the ruthless French mafia and release poor Champion from its clutches?

Very creative and artistic, and I have to say a bit peculiar. Probably one of the best animated films i've seen. I enjoyed it much more than The Illusionist which was also directed by Sylvain Chomet. Although it has no dialogue, I still found it very entertaining and engaging. It has a sort of darkness to it that makes it even more beautiful. I'm not sure if younger audiences would enjoy this. It may be more for those with an artistic eye. A superb masterpiece!

DreamWorks, Pixar or Disney ? Not even close. Perhaps more suited to compare him to Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli. However, he is even more unique in style and possesses such a flair for artistry, that inevitably sets him apart from anyone else. One of the most beautiful and stylistic INDIE animation films i have ever seen. Created by a French director with a wonderfully off balance imagination, Sylvain Chomet. A story out of mouth-watering imagery with meticulously drawn visuals, achieved on a shoe-string budget (BBC). A trio of has-been singers (Les Triplettes sisters) help a kind little grandmother with a club foot, on a rescue mission. Her boy is forced to participate in an illegal betting bicycle race (in Belleville) , organised by square shouldered MIB gangsters. Even if the dialogue is missing throughout most of it, it shines! In the opening sequence we can appreciate a dancer who looks suspiciously like Frederic Austerlitz Jr. aka Fred Astaire (1899-1987) , in a tip-tap dancing piece. I watched this film three days ago and i am still humming the melodic tunes of The Triplets' initial song! SUBLIME. A wonder of bizarre creativity. In order to be appreciated, it needs to be witnessed. Watch this movie and judge for yourself. Le Toon de France.

Absolutely brilliant ! There is no dialogue in it (however it is often hilarious) and it is kind of old-fashioned because no computer was used here and everything was hand-made. I highly recommend it for children and adults as well. What a splendid piece of work !
