Guillermo del Toro's films aren't for everyone. His films have a kind of an inner child oriented style, but yet it's not for kids. If you compare Hell Boy, The Devil's Backbone, The Orphanage (as a producer), Pan's Labyrinth, and even Mimic; you would notice that topics are always involving kids or kids' interests but not fully developing a hard to see, paralyzing horror film. The suspense on this one is good if you are the type of person that gets easily involved on a film without too much death and gore. It became slow at times, but it's a must see for del Toro's fans. 8/10 and IT'S NOT FOR KIDS. At least I wouldn't let mine watch it unless they're 13.

I actually really enjoyed this film. Everybody seems to hate this movie with a burning passion, which I think is a little unfair to the film that it's being placated as horrible in my opinion. I watched it thinking it would be a god awful waste of time and actually really enjoyed it. I have also seen the original TV film this one is based on. The remake in my opinion is a charming, unique, little monster movie. It has a child-like charm to it. and the ending surprised me. Rather than take people's word for it see for yourself, it's not for everyone. and it's not even my type of horror movie, But I liked it.

Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark was amazing!!!!! i loved it :P it was creepy and i loved the story, it was a little slow at times, but then it kicked in! it was creepy b/c it does that whole thing where they crawl under the bed sheets, thats always creeped me out since i was 6 and watched Dolls with my cousin when Aunt L. told us not to, i keep the covers tucked under me b/c of that movie! and movies where it does that just tend to creep me out. and i felt like i was on my toes at all times watching it!!! it was good. i really like the story of the (spoiler) i love anything to do with fantasy creatures, and i love when they aren't nice or cuddly like they usually are portrayed. 9/10

Don't think anyone fully grasped what this movie was about... it touches on the child's fear... and the legend of " the goodfolk" aka " fairies " ... yes fairies are NOT the lil Tinkerbell winged sprites, they are actually evil, dark, tiny creatures that dwell in dark places, caves, basements, cellars, sewers, move through houses via the heating ducts, hide in children's closets, under the bed... and this i what that movie was trying to grasp, how they whisper to children while the adults are not around, only appear to the children and not the adults, thus making themselves appear imaginary to the adults, yet are very real to children. This movie i very well enjoyed knowing all this having researched ancient folklore and legends, and i hope reading this review will set you in the proper mood, sharing a little of what this movie is about.... ENJOY!!!

I don't know what these people are thinking! My best friend and I just finished the movie and we loved it. :) Sure, it was weird. Strange, but it was very good! I love the actress who plays the little girl. :) Crappy ending, but in the end I'd watch it again. <3

Good remake of the 1973 version done in a way that only Del Torro can re-in-vision to make it viable for today. This movie is a good one to watch on a dark and stormy fall evening.

Well i actually enjoyed that. I love the actress who plays the wee girl, she played in once upon a time also. Takes a while to get into the movie but its worth it to get all the pieces of the story! Good for a watch!

This movie was a lot different than what I was expecting. Truly, del Toro was at one of his finest moments during this great dark fantasy gem of a film. Very creepy! 10/10

Hmmm shouldn't i be afraid of the dark after having watched this lol? I love Guillermos stories, they are always so dark, imaginative and very fairy tale like, always creepy old houses & it's the details in his movies that give this haunting eerie feeling, the noises and the kids are usually in focus. I really loved most of it, except for the ending. I would have wanted more details about the "why's" and "what". Beautifully shot mystery movie, story could have been developed better & i'd liked it to be a bit longer 7/10

I thought this movie was good, heard bad things about it but it was entertaining, the acting was decent... and if anyone could convincing portray those little creature, Guillermo del Toro was the man! People can be too critical of things sometimes, but it is what it is and I liked it!

This movie is a remake. The actor was excellent and the story was good. Many pointless scene, all the build up of the little girl is not original. The father script was interesting, the mother script was a tiny little plain The story about the creature was perfect and well-done (no comparison with the original movie). Now, about the creature...im sorry, but the look was terrible and i think its because they showed the creature too soon (no fear build up ). So the atmosphere were ruined and everything went predictable. They look like small dinosaurs at first, then i though they were rat, but in reality, they look like a mix between a bat and Quasimodo. worth a watch, 6/10 for me
