How anyone can say the acting was bad, really defeats me. It was superb! Peter Sellers was magical, and Shelley Winters deserved an Oscar. I was expecting the movie to be a lot darker but it was, in fact, very funny in some parts. OK, it was a little disturbing, especially for 1962. But an excellent movie.

Being the subject that it is in the time period it was made, I'm sure this turned heads. However I felt no chemistry between Humbert and Lolita, they were barely Stepdad and child the way they acted with one another. Quilty was pretty much a scene stealer instead of the sly, stealthy man he's supposed to have been. Long story short I prefer the 97 remake to this film despite my love for Kubrick's other works.

The novel LOLITA by V. Nabokov is great. But this movie is not awesome in my view. It didn't show the whole charm of the book.

Never judge a movie by its book.

I loved this film. Sellers, Lyon and Mason were great. I prefer this over the '97 version. 10/10

This movie was funny at some points, but definitely missing that little element of drama and realism which the remake provides. Without the obvious things which took place in Dolores and Humbert's relationship, the film only does half its job. Nabokov's book is far superior to both films. Back in 1962, the slogan for this film was "How did they ever make a movie of Lolita?". Well, Nabokov apparently had to really cut corners when he was writing the screenplay, because if the film consisted of everything that happened in the book, it would never see the light of day...it was 1962, after all. Sue Lyon's performance as Dolores Haze and James Mason as Humbert were both really accurate and are worthy of praise. An overall Kubrick masterpiece.

It's a real interesting take on a very taboo subject. I did enjoy it, although not as much as Kubrick's other movies. 6/10 Definitely has re-watch value, even if it is just to make sense of it all, or for any hidden messages in the movie. James Mason was superb. And Sue Lyon was also very good.

I loved this movie a lot! Personally I prefer the remake; it's faster paced, there's more chemistry between Humbert + Delores, and they didn't have to cut as may corners to get the film released. Still, this is a classic and it's absolutely worth watching. Acting is very very good too :) 8/10

Great film. Glad putting the book to film fell into the hands of Kubrick. Quilty was so great here, haha. Well, everyone was. Well done.

Definitely the better version of Lolita. Although it differs from the novel on several occasions, the character development of Humbert Humbert and Quilty is great. Peter Sellers is funny and amazing as always.

It's pretty easy to understand why Humbert pursued Lolita. I mean, just look at her! Sue Lyon was such a goddess! Kubrick was so slick too given all the censorship he had to work around. All that innuendo: Sandwich loaded with mayonnaise, cherry pies, stuffed beavers, Camp Climax, Dr. Kegel etc. Kubrick, you clever shrew, you! They should remake this every decade. In the 1970s, Jodie Foster would have been a perfect Lolita. If this was remade in 2011, it would have starred Chloe Moretz-- the ultimate jailbait. Anyway, one of Kubrick's best works. 9/10
