I had seen the poster for this movie everywhere and always wondered if it was worth a watch. After reading all of the positive reviews on this movie in the commentaries, I decided to watch it and, it was really a fine movie. Many thanks to all of the people who watched this movie, and recommended it. 10/10

Not seen this for about 15 years or so, but a really enjoyable, gothic fairytale style werewolf movie. May not be to everyone's taste but i think it's pretty good :)

Another wonderful fairy-tale filled with gothic imagery. Always loved this, it looks beautiful and just carries you away...

A coming of age film - transition from girl to woman. As a girl she is asleep to her potential then as she walks the path of life she awakens and her toys fall away - there are warnings of dangers - her womanliness is represented by the lipstick. This is my interpretation - a lovely film.

Really shouldn't be in the horror category... Beautiful movie! The editing and pacing is a bit haphazard but that really doesn't matter much. The movie, based on Angela Carter's awesome short story is REALLY more about Freudian themes, blossoming sexuality, loss of innocence, and more symbolism than you can think of! Yep, "Little Red Cap" is here along with the "Big Bad Wolf" but not like you imagine. I loved it when it first came out and still love it!!

A cerebral under-appreciated movie that plays like a series of fever dreams with one common theme. Inspired by excellent story by Angela Carter. Dated effects, odd editing in places, uneven pacing. Couldn't give a crap less. It's wonderful, trippy, and beautiful. Just bear in mind that it's NOT a horror film and not meant to be.

This is a classic! I remember watching it as a kid and being totally creeped out by it. Still get goose bumps when i watch it today. Love it.

I think this movie might have inspired more recent writers and filmmakers (e.g. Twilight- even some of the characters have similar names; Hemlock Grove- the man to wolf transformation). I understand that very smart people have made this movie, but it was kind of hard to watch because of the abstract way the narrative is structured and presented. The main story felt under-developed and even had an ambiguous ending, and I felt like the whole thing was just a little 'all over the place' when it ended. I liked the feminist interpretation of Red Riding Hood, although some aspects were way too overt and sometimes corny. 3 stars

its not bad for a one time watch, didnt like how there 3 non connecting storys going through the main story self, i just expected more from the comments i read, it might have tpart of a red riding hood story but doesnt keep to it or make that much sense in my opinion, but it's ok for a one off watch, 3/5

this has to be my favorite version of the Red Riding Hood story that I've seen. If anyone has any suggestions of others I should watch I'd love to hear from ya. I do recommend it to fans of fantasy and or horror.

Brilliantly done film with beautiful sets, an engaging story, excellent effects and, of course, stellar acting. Missed this one growing up in the 80's but I always saw the poster hanging up at the video rental stores I so often inhabited as a child. Thinking back to those memories made me sit down and watch it and I'm absolutely glad that I did. Highly recommend this one.

a childhood favorite! I remember seeing this growing up and loving it, even today I enjoy it. A gothic brothers grim of little red riding hood., A bag full of symbolic folklore about werewolves, or, rather, their sexual connotation. Granny tells her granddaughter Rosaleen strange, disturbing tales about innocent maidens falling in love with handsome, heavily eyebrowed strangers with a smoldering look in their eyes; about sudden disappearances of spouses when the moon is round & the wolves are howling in the woods; about babies found inside stork eggs, in a stork nest high up a tree; etc., etc. Of course the story of Little Red Ridinghood is also present, with a very handsome he-wolf! (And of course this he-wolf consumes Grandmother, but 'consumes' Little Red Ridinghood). All the stories are somehow reducible to loss of innocence, and fear of/hunger for (a newly acquired sense of) sexuality; their Freudian character is mirrored in their dreamlike shapes. This movie is not really a horror movie; it's more a multiple tale about growing up into adolescence.

I studied the Bloody Chamber at A-level and this was wonderful in terms of its imagery to write about. Excited to watch it :)

I have searched and searched for this movie for many years. It was always a favorite of mine. Forget about the imagined symbolism and just enjoy the horror and fantasy in this dark fairytale movie. By the way, I need to move to a place like this.

One of my movies of all time. I used to look at the video cover of this film in the horror section of the video store all the time when I was a little girl and imagine it was some horrifying slasher film. When I was finally old enough to reach the coverlet and read what it was about, I was hooked. Neil Jordan is very talented and given that this was released in 1984, I think the themes and style hold up quite well. If anything, it is an excellent candidate for a modern reboot.
