I was pleasantly surprised by this film. Very well acted with beautiful scenery. It told the tragic story of Marie who's life was ended at the young age of of 37. Her excesses are vastly overstated in reality. In fact, rather than ignoring France's growing financial crisis, she reduced the royal household staff, eliminating many unnecessary positions that were based solely on privilege. And in the process she offended the nobles, who then added to the scandalous stories spread by royal hopefuls. It was the nobility that shunned the financial reforms that the government ministers tried to make, not the King and Queen, who were infact in favour of change.

I thought the film was rather good. Dont agree with the comments about the music, as with Baz Luhrmans Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, I think the point of it was to mix contempory with history. The only piece i thought was TOO OTT was the "I love candy" halfway through! Quite an abrupt ending, would have liked to have gone all the way to her eventual execution, but on the whole worth a watch!

Erm, for me it was an okay movie, nothing special. Did have a laugh at the scene where it shows inside Marie's wardrobe, with all the shoes. I did a double take, ran it back and paused, yup sure enough, a pair of bright pink converse/sneakers/trainers in there! either someone screwed up, or it was put there for a laugh!

A stunning film visually. However script wise it was empty, it lacked simple conversation. Invested the 2 hrs because my eyes were so delighted with the mastery of the costumes and the locale. So deliciously indulgent in that regard.

Kirsten Dunst helped to humanize this tragic, frivolous young woman in this historical film...stunning period costumes and setting.

A contemporary loosely based half-hearted that in the end is going to leave you asking "why did they even bother" with making this film...4/10

The film isn't about the revolution. Its about her life before it. A beautiful film very satisfying to the eye. 8/10.

Absolutely exquisite film. Sofia Coppola is unbelievable talented. She tells the story from a different point of view. Everything is different trough her eyes ans she can bring that to the screen. Perfect 10.

Beautifully shot but the script was appalling and as for the Indie Soundtrack, who decided on that needs shooting. Dunst deserved a lot better because she can really act if given the chance. 7/10

This movie was just ok. The director's style seemed to be more important than the actual plot. A lot of important stuff was either left out or barely touched on. Worth one watch, but don't expect too much. 2.25/5

Alot of time was put into the costumes. I read alot of books about Marie Antionette when I was younger and none of them showed how much she spent and 'partied' like this film does.

This is really beautiful visually, a real feast for the eyes, unfortunately the script and score do not hold up as well. Worth watching just for the costumes and sets.
