Hail Columbia: This short, chapter 3 in the "See America First" series, covers the years 1807-1819. It is the age of territorial expansion. The Louisiana Purchase from France means that America now reaches the Pacific. Commerce on the Mississippi River plays an important part in expanding the population into the newly acquired land. The War of 1812 challenges American resolve, and the Florida Purchase of 1819 expands America to the south. As the narrator tells the story, the audience visits various cities, battlefields, buildings, and monuments associated with the featured personalities and events.
