Transcendent Man: TRANSCENDENT MAN chronicles the life and ideas of Ray Kurzweil, an inventor and futurist that presents his bold vision of the Singularity, a point in the near future when technology will be changing so rapidly, that we will have to enhance ourselves with artificial intelligence to keep up. Ray predicts this will be the dawning of a new civilization in which we will no longer be dependent on our physical bodies, we will be trillions of times more intelligent and there will be no clear distinction between human and machine, real reality and virtual reality. Human aging and illness will be reversed; world hunger and poverty will be solved and we will ultimately cure death. Critics accuse Ray of being too optimistic and argue that the dangers of the Singularity far outweigh the benefits, pointing out the apocalyptic implications that once machines achieve consciousness, we may not be able to control them. Whether Rays controversial ideas incite excitement or fear, dogma or disbelief this ambitious documentary will forever change the way you look at life, death, and your own future.

It's interesting to me that this man is dedicating his life to the idea of immortality (and escaping the same fate of his father) and it is seemingly clear that he won't live for very long. Is this futility?

Definitely very interesting. I've had glimpses at thinking such things myself. They do seem very plausible. However in this movie, it leads us to believe Ray so badly wants these things to come within our lifetime that he's simply fooling himself. Nobody knows what the future will hold but this movie is a good insight into the mind of an intelligent man with pleasant optimistic views for what the future may hold.

Alright documentry, for me this Ray Kurzweil bloke is too optimistic about the future, he doe's not take into account human cruelty and mans sadistic side, when everybody is interfaced with machines and becomes more powerful, imagine the chaos that will be unfolded by such evil people, with that type of power, end of the world me thinks?

Save yourself and do not watch this film. It is too much talking about talking about how great this guy is. I have seen many documentaries about people that were much better. I even talked about how bad it was only to found out other people that could only watch two minutes. His ideas are not creative...

I'd love to stay at the bottom of my pool for four hours. No really i would thats not sarcastic, oh f**k I don't have a pool. "the future , i think is going to be more fantastic than anything ever articulated" like that does us any good articulation does not equal actualization for us poor gobshites left behind. They think they're smart okay eliminate pain.

He compares the M.I.T in 1965 to an i-phone but what about application of these wonderful advances take away the production of these frivolous commodities and make something useful. He seems to be a great man. I'm sorry about my bias but once he put William Shatner in there it kinda lost credibility.

Very Interesting ! Personally I view joining Electronic technology To our own biological entities Kind of a travesty ! Evolution and knowledge Is great , although I think that any kind of marriage Into the mind of any kind of electronic device will always Include mastery by those that ! Silly boys ! Before our species can expect to evolve within certain parameters we need to exclude pathetic control addicts , which have been there for generations already ! PEOPLE REVOLT and regain control of our destiny ! Who's left , If you've all got chips In your head ? We must become Intelligent and evolve as a species ,It can't happen If we evolve Into another species !

Very intresting if some what prophetical,i can belive that all this could be possible but the time line he predicts falls short on reality. There is no reason why we couldnt do what he suggests but with a planet that is allready over its population limit i do not personaly think the working class man would see its benifits. The powers that be do not want more people they want less in england theres are about 32 million people of a working age 7 million people work for the goverment 5 million people are unemployed 2 million are too sick to work and 4 million jobs survive from contracts they have with supplying the goverment then throw in 6 million retired on state pensions and then child care allowence for millions of children. This results that 1 working man pays for 2.1 adults from his taxes. There is obviously a flaw in the system making people live longer would make this problem alot worse, we are allready seeing the effects of people living longer in england the retirement age of a man is now 65-70.Ray Kurzweil is an idealist but is blind to issues of today 8/10.

the human race will kill each other off before any further scientific or technological evolution occurs.

Can be rather boring. What good is all these fantastical predictions from a millionaire many times over with an I.Q. higher than us normal humans? The present is the most important time to be concerned about. This guy is just as powerless as the rest of us. One thing we all humans are equal in is death. I want to see people do rather than talk all this shit as I have seen many times on the news. Check it out if you have the time but you won't be missing much that has not been said or done before.
