One of the scariest horror movies ever because it seems just like what it is purported to be: a video made by students. Loved the intimation of the unspeakable unknown throughout and the rapid ending that made one think, at least me, about what just happened. All horror shows, in one way or another, play off on our fear of death, and this one kept the dread going great where often special fx of gore and guts fail. No film has ever made me feel the terror of being lost camping in the wild like this one does, and we do our share of camping.

I think so many people missed the point with this film, It is a class horror/suspense movie and you really have to use your imagination to understand it more...Try to think about what it would be like for the students parents sat at the police station watching this over with the local sheriff a full year after their children vanished. For any parent this would be horrifying. Get into that frame of mind and its a totally different experience. Too many people rely on cgi and effects in general, Where this relies mainly on an audience opening their minds and using empathy as a weapon of fear. There lies the genius in this gem of this low budget movie. Watch this, However you'll need to get into character yourself!

For me, being lost in a forest is scary enough. Overrated or not. 5/5

some cool facts about the movie:: 1) It took a mere 8 days to shoot this film. 2) film was in the Guinness Book Of World Records for 'Top Budget:Box Office Ratio' (for a mainstream feature film). The film cost $22,000 to make and made back $240.5 million, a ratio of $1 spent for every $10,931 made. 3)To promote discord between actors, the directors deliberately gave them less food each day of shooting. 4)The 1999-2000 hunting season suffered badly due to this film. The movie was so popular that fans all over the country were hiking into the wilderness to shoot their own Blair Witch-style documentaries. As a result they kept most of the wildlife scared away from hunting areas. 5)The actors were requested to interview the townspeople, who often, unbeknownst to the actors, were planted by the directors. As a result, the expressions on the actors' faces were unrehearsed.

Opinion on this film will always be grossly divided, when really, it's such an amazing, tantalizing, and unforgettable work of horror and independent art

This is a must see for any horror fan. It's low budget genius that would never have worked if it had been done by a big name studio with a big budget. There have been many knock offs, but this is the original and best. It's raw, believable and terrifying.

To think, I actually thought this was a real movie when I was a kid. After seeing it, I would tell others to watch it and told them it was real and it was actual footage from a true story. Haha, the days of being so naive and immature. Great horror movie. The ending left me nightmares for many days as a young kid.

I remember how groundbreaking this film was when I saw it in theaters (even though, "the last broadcast," was technically the first 'found footage' film). It takes the theme of, "what you don't see is far scarier," to a whole new level by relying solely on sound and creepy objects to set the atmosphere. Definitely worth at least one watch. 8/10

Kinda disappointed myself by watching it again last nite. I saw it in the theatre originally and liked it a lot, was very surprised by it. But 20 years later it wasn't that scary. Female lead didn't get on my nerves as much as first time around, I actually empathised with her this time. But it just wasn't that scary. I adore FF films. I still love what this movie achieved. But... I think it works once and then it doesn't. I think I knew that already or I wouldnt have waited 20 freakin yrs to see it again mainly as a reason to get into someone's pants. At least that part worked out. *wink* 5 stars for that.

I saw this ages ago and admit the screaming got on my nerves, but then, it always does. Not my favourite movie but one that stood out at that time. New camera concept then, leaving the trodden path. And it is a movie that gets better in hindsight. For me, it IS a classic must-see, to be judged by the standard that was active when it was made. One of the few movies I still remember exactly where and when I watched it.
