A horribly boorish and awful American attempt at a remake of a classic Japanese franchise. Hardly a kaiju film at all, and it saddens me that Jean Reno had to be in this vomitus. It's more akin to some silly bastardized urban Jurassic Park with a lone, albeit big, mama dinosaur. On the plus side, since this movie was universally hated by Toho and most kaiju fans, we get a new remake attempt under Toho's watchful eye and the trailer for Godzilla (2014) is looking good. I'll take the laughable 'insert Raymond Burr in Japan' Godzilla any day of the week over this drivel.

I just cant wrap my head around how they keep losing this thing in a highly populated city. Aside from that unlikeable characters, poor cgi. Also, isnt the point of a Godzilla film to have him fight another giant monster. How do you miss that. Hopefully new Godzilla film will fix it

That scene with the Elvis Presley moment, okay that just made me love this movie. Otherwise, it really wasn't too bad at all, mostly boring storyline, but Godzilla looks mighty awesome. Still, it was unfortunately boring for the most part for me. Good for a watch every couple of years.

A weak Godzilla movie with some laughable effects and creature design. But still not too terrible if you're extremely bored on a sunday afternoon and can't find anything else. Not a Godzilla film I would recommend, but still a movie I'd bury in the past after a one-time watch. 2/5

It could have been a lot worse than it was, don't let the haters fool you. Matthew Broderick was a weird casting choice along with the dude from Leon The Professional but still... the effects are great and the story is passable for an American version from 1998, let's be real. I remember when this came out, I was a kid and it was the biggest thing that had happened for a while. I had Godzilla sheets, Godzilla pillow cases, the laser tag down at the mall was taken over and became Godzilla laser tag, maybe I only like this movie because of that nostalgia? I don't know. But I like it. So I recommend it. So watch it. 7/10.

REALLY liked this movie.. have seen it more than once. Loved Hank Azaria's character. This flick had lots of action.. had me clenching my hands, and running fast and driving the taxi at 200 mph! Great special FX! Will more than likely watch it again. 4.5/5

I loved this movie as a kid although I think it is a little outdated and not as great as action films are today, so I am very anxious to see the remake in 2014 8/10 still enjoyable.

I remember being 13 years old and going to the theaters to see this movie. I loved it back then and I love it now. This was a testament to early, bigger budget CGI films and I think it stands up pretty well. Mathew Broderick is great in this role and Jean Reno is one of the most underrated actors of all time. My only criticism about the cast is the inclusion of Maria Patillo as Audrey. While she is gorgeous, she's a sub-par actress and in my opinion doesn't really contribute anything to the film. I also wasn't a huge fan of the decision to make Godzilla more of an overgrown iguana rather than fashioning him after the more dinosaur influenced version we've seen in the previous films. However, it was announced at Comic-Con this year that Legendary Pictures has acquired the rights to the Godzilla franchise and are working on a 3D film to be released in 2012. The film is supposed to be more of a return to original movies and I for one will be in line to see it when it comes out.
