Martyrs is one of those movies that truly pulls your pants down around your ankles when you're not looking. Like, it's a movie where it's violence and subject matter is something that we haven't seen in a while, and probably something that we can't count on in the near future. However, while "Martyrs" is very very very violent, even for any horror fan, theirs so much more to it than just gore. I've read what people have said and they say the film is all gore and no plot, well sadly they did not see the movie point. You see "Martyrs" takes it's time before we get to the main premise, and it also is a movie that gives the audience enough information, to where for the first hour we're not asking "Who is that person again?" or "Why is she doing that again?" I must say the acting is very well done, and you instantly get a connection with Lucie and Anna. Also the violence, I not going to say it was unneeded, but it was relevant as to what was going on. I truly think that violence is their to show us, the audience, just how wicked people can be, and how life is, and how what comes around, definitely goes around in usually not a great way. I must say it didn't disturb me, well I take that back it did like once, but for me it was more in the emotional factor, than gross out factor. Again it's their to show you how cruel people are, and while to them their intentions might be fair, to the victim, no. I also thought "Martyrs" was just very smart, and very well set up, and you can tell that they really tried and succeeded in making it original, atmospheric, thrilling, and definitely fresh. However towards the ending it began to get a little confusing, not that it was a bad thing, it's just you're left their with questions. B. It just got sloppy, and it seemed to me they were being rushed, and it could have been more in depth, but Martyrs is great. Overall "Martyrs" is by far not somebody's movie at all, and while their is more to it than what is to appear, some just won't be able to get far enough to where they'll see it. So would I recommend it? Yes, but only if you like horror films, or have seen your fair share of violent movies.

This is not a movie for the faint of heart or easily offended and is guaranteed to evoke a variety of, likely, negative emotional responeses in the viewer.
This film delves into a very sadistic side to humanity and leaves a lasting impression in the process.
I have seen nothing like this before or since, a perfect blend of horror and thriller. The brutality shown in this film is pushing many boundries but through the course of the storyline it is revealed to be a necessary component of the plot. I will admit I found this movie disturbing on so many levels, but I did not find it to be a pointless exploitation of violence and depravity which is so common in today's horror flicks.
I would call this a true psychological HORROR; pulling the viewer in with an interesting storyline, excellently executed with brilliant performances and near perfect cinematography.

Well this movie has to be the most disturbing, twisted, disgusting, crucial, evil movie of the horror genre. Trust me when i say, i have seen hundreds of horror films and this one was by far one of the most brutal creepy movies. It had paranormal, mental issues, psychology, twisted individuals, crazy insane practises and experiments, and of course torture. This movie was creepy, suspenseful, it just had it all. I will never get over how disturbing this was, a definite watch!

This movie is similar to hostel, but this has no sexual overtones. overall hostel has a better plot and ending. this was just more sadistic. would have made for a GREAT ghost story or haunting. however, as is, this movie keeps you interested down to the very end.

What can I say but...WOW! Finally! A real "horror" movie experience that's actually an experience! Something you can see, hear and feel. There wasn't a moment in this movie where I wasn't feeling anxious or dusturbed. It's shocking, but you won't be able to look away. Definitely one of the most impressive films I've seen this year. This movie should come with an ***EXTREME WARNING*** and is definitely not for the Kiddies! It's a very disturbing and at times you'll feel ashamed of yourself for watching it!!

This was a very well made piece of Mind-Garbage. People, who make movies like this, which are so irredeemably filled with sadism and depravity, should be tied to a chair... and forced to watch nothing but this kind of crap, 24 Hrs. a day. I am utterly disgusted by the subject matter, as well as the sick mind that conceived of it. It is utterly irresponsible and detestable, that anyone... could be so completely devoid of morals, that they think it's tolerable to produce this kind of swill. Naziism is alive and well in the world, apparently. I'm going to go and throw up now. I'll leave the Bathroom door open for you, when I'm done. I seriously fear for the future, in a world, where this passes as O.K.. I give it a BIG FAT -5/5. :(
