Lover Come Back: Jerry Webster and Carol Templeton are both in the advertising business, but for different agencies. Annoyed by Jerry's methods of using alcohol and women to ensure contracts for his agency, Carol tries to get him thrown out of his profession. To avoid this Jerry bribes the girl who'd testify against him, by starring her in a TV commercial for a product named VIP that he's just made up. By accident these commercials are broadcasted and to keep his job, Jerry has to come up with VIP for which he enlists the help of Doctor Linus Tyler. Carol goes to see the Doctor to try and get the VIP account, but because she and Jerry have never met, she mistakes Jerry for the Doctor. Jerry then takes advantage of this situation to win her.

This is a great film, it's hilarious. Trying to hide his true identity from Doris Day has Rock Hudson going to incredible lengths. The whole family can watch this one.

What can I say about a Doris Day and Rock Hudson match-up that hasn't already been said? They work well together. Doris Day is always fun to watch and Rock Hudson embodies the sophisticated, barrel-chested playboy of his era with ease. It has all the elements of a Rom-Com you want, although the steamy, sexual tension one may desire is implied rather than portrayed outright. This works for me. The aesthetic of this time period, what we call today 'Mid Century Modern', is my favorite. I usually watch these movies to see the way of life back then. Rock Hudson and Doris Day play ad execs from competing agencies. Tony Randall, always the comic relief, plays the bumbling ad-agency president and friend of Rock Hudson's character Jerry Webster. If you are a fan of Mad Men, you can't help but draw parallel's to Don Draper's character in Jerry Webster. Anyway, I could go on, but if you enjoy Rom Com's and you enjoy Mad Men or just films about Ad Agencies of yesteryear, you'll enjoy this just fine.
