Totally one of my favourite films. Great acting. Complex, surprising, ordinary, suspenseful, thoughtful, chilling - great film. I love it. I bought it. It's a significant work from the 20th Century. If I had to pick a top twenty great films, The Conversation would be very close to the top. It couldn't be any better.

Great thriller. You will need patience to get to the twist in the end. I didn't see that coming. And I don't think he's getting his security deposit back :D

I will describe this movie in two word: Brilliant and engrossing. It was slow but i didn't fast forward through any part and payed full attention to the movie. Very interesting and suspenseful. Two things i loved in the movie was the opening scene and the twist near the end. The opening scene really sets the mood for the movie and the twist sort of changes the story around. Gene Hackman was perfect in his role. Oscar worthy as he always was. Worth watching multiple times and i really hope Mr.Coppola would do a movie this great again.

good mystery/thriller. I didnt expect the twist in the last ten minutes, so I would say its pretty unpredictable. 7.5/10

'The Conversation' (1974) is a lesser known gem written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, who brought us The Godfathers I-II. John Cazale, who played 'Fredo' there, also co-stars here, along w/ Robert Duvall in the uncredited role of 'The Director.' The pacing and feel of the two movies is very different, however. 'The Conversation' is a mystery/thriller and character study, with a more dreary, spare look to it. The film's final impact is powerful, as Gene Hackman's main character self-immolates. If you are a Coppola devotee, or enjoyed 'Thief' starring James Caan, you may also appreciate 'The Conversation.' Trivia: John Cazale and Meryl Streep were a couple until Cazale's death during the making of 'The Deer Hunter.'

A Masterpiece. A movie that functions perfectly as a grounded social analysis, still relevant today, and as a subtle character study mixing the realistic and the allegoric on a perfectly pace and composed film.

Amazing film that no one really seems to know about. Hackman's acting was great and so was Coppola's directing (as always). Harry Caul to me makes Bourne and Bond look like a couple of soft old pretty boys.
