Very good movie if you can stomach the subject matter. This movie is obviously not for everyone. Nicely written and acted. Worth a watch if you are into either foreign or disturbing films which I am. Ending is a bit whack though. 4/5

Graphic themes and vile portrayals of the adverse effects of long-term abuse and trauma depicted in this film are totally nightmarish. Extremely sad as well. :(

While similar (old nazi war criminal, young man), this film has NOTHING else in common with Apt Pupil. The themes are much stronger and the vision much bleaker and horrific. That said, it is a damn fine, disturbing film and worth the time to give a viewing. When I first saw it I had to leave the room twice and it became, with Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and the original NOTLD, one of my favorite horror films....

Dark movie but interesting. Kinda boring at first but after you understand a bit more it def becomes a movie worth watching. A bit on the creepy side and tells the consequences of child abuse, at least the consequences on this one particular child.

A well done movie that will not appeal to everyone. The subject matter is fairly disturbing, but I found that to be one of the film's positives for me. An interesting look at the consequences of child abuse, and the creation of killers. Despite the similarities it is in no way officially related to King's "Apt Pupil". However it is based on one of historys old serial killers, Gilles de Rais. 7/10

Apt Pupil came out in 98, and this came out in 87. Apt Pupil is based on Stephen Kings novella, and this was influenced greatly on the history of Gilles de Rais, the serial killer from the early mid 1400's. If anything, Bryan Singer watched In A Glass Cage and then decided to direct the film Apt Pupil as a toned-downed version of it.

A movie that's definitely not for everybody! I'm not sure, but I think it may be based on the Stephen King novella "Apt Pupil", since the plots are almost identical. Very good production! Decent acting and a compelling story concerning child abuse and the creation of a psychotic. Starts off a wee bit slow but like most of my favorite films, begins a slow burn. Recommended!

In the DVD interview, Villaronga stated that the film was inspired by writer Georges Bataille's study of Gilles de Rais. Less horror film and more darkly themed analysis of the effects of child abuse.
