This episode was intense: in particular, Omar's reaction to his friend's death, the moral conversation between Wallace and D'Angelo, and the dispute between Lieutenant Daniels and Major Rawls spurred on by Detective McNulty. It shows the sad reality of criminality and law enforcement. The police are trying to arrest criminals and get a conviction while working within a difficult system. On the other hand, criminal behavior practically saturates entire communities, all the way down to little kids acting as lookouts and yelling 5-0 when they see police. Also, the criminal groups are working against each other, but to some extent, so are the police, with there being conflict between wanting to build cases and make arrests for show.

I love the way this shows both sides of the story, the cops and the drug dealers! and all the characters are fully fleshed out and not just one dimensional comic book bad guys and cops. 5/5

Holy Jumpin', can that Michael K. Williams (as Omar Little) act, or what!? When he says his lines - during his close-up, in HIS last scene of the episode - with tears in his eyes, he was so Believable that I forgot for a second that I was watching an actor! Talented man.
