American Pickers is an American documentary reality television series that premiered January 18, 2010 on History Channel. The show follows two "pickers," Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, as they travel around Iowa, the greater Midwest, and the South (as of season one) buying antiques and collectibles. They are assisted by Danielle Colby-Cushman, who runs their business (called Antique Archeology) and attempts to track down potential sources of valuable objects. Antique Archeology is based out of LeClaire, Iowa. Wolfe and Fritz target older farms and other, mostly rural locations to find and purchase these objects. Wolfe has a particular interest in old bicycles, while Fritz has a fondness for antique oil cans, although they have purchased old advertising signs, movie theater posters, a rare 15-gallon visible gasoline pump and a Vespa passenger scooter that one of their friends tells them is probably the only one of its kind in North America. Wolfe said he seeks collectibles that would interest men rather than items such as Depression glass. The series debuted with 3.2 million viewers, and was the #1 new series in the 25-54 year old category.

I'd like to respond to some of the haters by saying that there is more to consider here than just "bought for/sold for" $ amounts. These guys in this show are not swindling anyone. The vast majority of things they buy are not family heirlooms. I've never seen them be anything but respectful when something is "not for sale." Mostly, they're buying things that have been sitting in barns and basements rotting into worthlessness and if Mike and Frank hadn't come along, that's exactly what most of these items would still be doing. Now these things will be prized by someone and the fact that it's filmed gives the rest of us the chance to veiw and appreciate them. That has value unto itself. Just because they may buy something for $200 and sell it for $1000 doesn't mean they ripped the seller off. The value of your item is only as great as your ability to sell it. Mike and Frank have connections and a reputation in the business which gives them the ability to sell things at a higher price than the average layperson. Even with Ebay, it's still luck if the right person stumbles across your item and is willing to pay premium for it; where as with Mike and Frank, they know exactly where to find the people that want to buy this stuff.

These guys get a bad wrap...A lot of people are saying they are ripping people off...They tell everyone that they are trying to make a Buck...And when people shoot out a low price for something they even say "NO" and pay what they think it's worth. And look they even gave 5000 to the carny guy cause they made 10 000 on something he sold them...They are not twisting anyone's arm too sell and most the time they invite them back...I think the old saying is True "Everyone has a Price" Really good show

I really enjoy this show, and am envious of some of the finds Mike and Frank score. Not sure how in the heck they stay in business but they definitely find and buy some great stuff. Thanks to this site, I have watched every single episode up to date. 4/5

I'm both a picker and a collector, so needless to say, I can't get enough of this program.

Didnt want to give this a chance but damn i "picked" a good one here. They can be a little annoying at times but shoot, this is still awesome.

For me it's not just the items that they find but also the people that they buy them from. The show's cast Mike, Frank and of course Danielle, or if you prefer, Danny D! Two of my all time favorite sellers (sorry, I don't remember their names) was the guy who had the underground maze of very long but not very wide corridors that looked as if they would fall in at any point in the episode. I've got a pretty bad case of claustrophobia so I could only watch a couple of minutes of that pick at a time cuz I would find myself hyperventilating, but yet it was one of my all time favorite picks...not sure what that says about me!?!

I've been a fan of this show from the beginning but it is starting to get stale for me. I can't say I look forward to watching it anymore. It's become the show I watch to put me to sleep. I think it would be interesting to also see them sell more of there items and meet some of the clientele they are always talking about and see their collections.

I love this show! These guys are great and Danielle is awesome, I'd love to see an after show or behind the scenes where we can all see Danielle s tattoos and hear her story behind them all, sorta like how the show goes into the items and their history but it would just be about her tattoos. I think that's a scorpion on her arm, but haven't been able to see it fully yet, hot. Notice how american pickers differs from Canadian pickers in the Canadians are so much tighter with their money and they never give a guy what his stuff is really worth if he doesn't already know it.

The hook is deep. I love Mikes enthrallment with the hunt. I love the decent History segments which lack in other shows. Only problem is I am now obsessed with vintage leathers and old Motorcycles..

I find this show great. Personally I can see the value in the things they "pick" and i love almost every piece. I am younger than who you would think age wise would watch this show. What I don't seem to understand is the fact that children and teens today can't seem to see the value in old items it's all about the new stuff. They seem to get caught up in all this junk the market puts out today instead of exploring our nations past and learning to treasure it. I feel that adults with kids and teens should make them watch at least one episode. The children of today are the future of tomorrow and they need to know the past to understand where we came from and where we need to go. This show has taught me a lot as a teen and it makes me feel proud to say I learn from tv. I love our nations history and I give Mike and Frank 10/10 for preserving it.
