Well, only took me like 200 glances at the picture to notice it says 'AM I A GOD'.

It's painful to know that there are people who'd watch this and find anything less than brilliance. Visually it will knock you off your feet... the practical and visual effects. The effortless blending of the two. The enormous universe and the slow, methodical, poetic way this show is managing to bring it all together. Queen of Sheba, Odin, Czernobog, Anansi, Anubis, Sweeney ... that's just so far! Not to mention the new gods. It's fucking incredible. If you're expecting the entire story to be laid out in a handful of episodes you don't deserve this show and need to go back to watching America's next top what the hell ever.

I loved the first episode. Then again, I really loved the book. So the above opinion makes sense. If you've read Gaiman's American Gods, then the debut episode will be a real treat. It hews closely to the book's narrative thus far, and perhaps more remarkably in my eyes, the actors cast to play the different characters -- especially Shadow and the Leprechaun -- mirror pretty much what I pictured as I read the book those many years ago. As I said, a real treat for the fan. What is a mystery to me, though, is how the casual viewer who hasn't read the novel nor is even familiar with Neil Gaiman and his post modern fairy tale novels will adapt to this series. American Gods, while an engrossing read, touched upon very dense philosophical themes on religion, faith and the questions of whether humans control belief or belief, once established, controls humans. If I were unfamiliar with American Gods, I would probably find the debut episode quirky, but I'd likely loose interest in the long run. Or maybe not. The visuals are lush in this adaption, the use of blood is almost a rich hue that adds life to what otherwise be a pale template of coloring surrounding Shadow in the episode. The cinematography alone with worth the price of admission. But as the show progresses, my bet is many who never read the book will give up on American Gods.

I read the book, enjoyed its strange tales of American Gods. But, I never imagined the book to be told with such style and flair as this series. I am never quite sure if I love it or hate it; as my feelings change with each new episode. Great acting, great scenery and best of all, a great well-written script. Thank you Neil; and thanks to ALL!

Loved the book and this first episode didn't disappoint! Neil Gaiman seems to be happy with the result and that's good enough for me! Even the actor playing Mad Sweeney pulled off an Irish accent (something I've rarely seen in the acting world, Tom Cruise anyone? *shudder*) Ian McShane played Mr. Wednesday to a T. Can't wait to see the rest of the series.

This show is so damned beautiful that whenever I get bored with anything else I watch, I'm dreaming of it being done with the art, cinematography and acting calibre here. The best adaptation of a book into a show I've seen so far, really fleshing it out with style instead of being weighed down by a book's prescribed pace, dumbing it down, or any of the other craft pitfalls you see in even the top shows. TWD should be taking notes on this.

Like this show so much I went out and read the book. That said, and no offense to Neil Gaiman AT ALL, the book was great, I just hope the show's creators don't follow it too closely. There's so many directions this story could go and such a colorful world on display here that it'd almost be refreshing to see the show do something a little different and more expansive with it. Fingers crossed!- either way, it's awesome :D

I was skeptical at first, but this show is amazing. I've never seen anything else like it. It's crazy! For all of the True Blood fans out there... Remember that feeling you got from that when you were watching each new episode? Well that's the same feeling I'm getting from this now, just on steroids. LOL... Love this show. It's like I'm in the shoes of Shadow and I want answers, right now!

This is a great show and I highly recommend it, but if you're the type of person that needs everything explained to you in detail, then this isn't the show for you. You might actually have to think about what things mean while watching this show.

So if you enjoy shows like The Leftovers, Preacher, Legion, Mr. Robot, you may just want to try this one too. I'm totally intrigued after watching episode 1, I'll be favoriting it next.

American Gods is one of my favorite books and this 100% does it justice. Only 3 eps in but I adore this show. I also love Fuller and Hannibal and Ian Mcshane so this show is kind of like my perfect storm of tv lol. And tbh I was worried after watching the first ep that people who haven't read the book wouldn't get it and be turned off to it but it really seems like people are loving it which is amazing. Already renewed for season 2 and I am super pumped to see some of my favorite scenes come to life.
