I've read the books and watched the movie. was very disappointed the movies didn't continue. this series is an exceptional addition to the mix. added to favorites. producers are hoping for 3 seasons, already writing for season 2, just waiting on netflix to green lite it.

Very disappointing... Great cast, beautiful aesthetic... and still... just SO awful and boring.

I feel as if - and feel free to correct me - less American audiences will enjoy this series as it doesn't follow the '..and they lived happily ever after' routes. Additionally, I feel like people who haven't read the novels might easily misunderstand the nature and quirkiness of the series, which might come off as bad writing/trying to be artsy and simply get bored.. Having read the novels, I'm loving this adaptation, especially how well Neil Patrick Harris gets into the role.

wow i thought this was great! not sure why its getting bad reviews. the cinematography is brilliant, using muted filters with symbolically placed colors. The set designs are fascinating. The characters are well portrayed and are each very eccentric and unique, just like they are supposed to be and how the story is told. I love the narration and the definition of terms. It watches very much like you were reading the books, which is strange. I dont think i've ever watched anything that felt like i was also reading at the same time....anyway, if you liked the movie version, definitely give this a shot.

Amazing show, tremendously faithful to the books and wow is NPH a great Count Olaf. If you like the books, this is about as good of an adaptation we'll get and it's a darned good one so no complaints. Can't wait to see season 2 and I'll be so happy if they get to make all the books in episodes! Do give this a watch. Even if you've only seen the movie you will most likely get a kick out of 1. a better Count Olaf (one you actually despise and don't like) 2. better storytelling 3. on point jokes and extremely dark moments that seem out of place but somehow not at the same time 4. astounding atmosphere 5. more in-depth explanations as to Count Olaf's connection to the family and a bunch of secret society stuff that we never got to know a lot about in the rushed 2004 movie. So yeah, simply put, do yourself a favor and give this a go. Definitely worth it and I love it!

This wasn't my cuppa. That said, the acting was great and the cinematography was pretty near perfect. Patrick Warburton is an unexpected choice to play Lemony Snickett, but a good one. But good heavens they caked him in so much make-up he looked like a corpse.

depends on how you feel about semi-musical runs at comedy. in fairness the production is as good as the material allows.

I am 5 episodes in - didn't like it at first, but really enjoying the story now. And NPH is superb! Really, it was only in the last episode I saw he was the actor and producer of this show. What an incredible career and life he has had, and he has pulled himself up and proven himself to be a great actor and businessman. Huge kudos to him!

My son and I were so very excited about this series coming to tv. My daughter and I had seen the movie with Jim Carey years ago, when she was little, and we had hoped for a continuation of the books through more movies. That did not happen and it was very disappointing. Over the years I have collected the series of novels for my kids, but only my daughter read them. So both my son and I are now thoroughly enjoying this tv version, and I now get to find out what happens to the Baudelaire children. I was especially happy with the choice of actors. No one can beat Jim, but Neil Patrick Harris does a great job. The children are so close to looking and acting like the actors I had come to love in the movie, especially Emily Browning. Malina Weissman, as the new Violet Baudelaire, could be her sister. Beautiful filming and I personally love Patrick Warburton (Lemony Snicket) 10/10

I feel "A series of unfortunately dim people" is a more apt name. Still a great show.

So I guess the total cloning of the Pushing Daisies style means we'll never get a revival of PD on Netflix, eh?

Decent series so far. Each episode is really repetitive and the narrator's monologues appear to disrupt the flow of the plot for me. While this worked for the books, I'm not sure it is working for the television adaptation. I love Neil Patrick Harris, but he isn't a very convincing villain (comes off more funny than frightening). I really like the story, and it does get better towards episode 8, so I will watch more seasons of the show if they continue.

I have never read the book so I don't know the actual order of events, but this is entirely different from the movie,at least in the order of the unfortunate events that occur,I would think it follows the book a lot closer with having a hell of a lot more time to tell it,I don't know. I am really liking this show so far though, netflix has been putting out some great stuff,I can't wait to see what they do next.
