Hatfields & McCoys: "Hatfields & McCoys" is the story of a clash of clans that evoked great passion, vengeance, courage, sacrifice, crimes and accusations, and includes a cast of characters that changed the families and the history of the region forever. The Hatfield-McCoy saga begins with 'Devil' Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy. Close friends and comrades until near the end of the Civil War, they return to their neighboring homes - Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky - to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon explode into all-out warfare between the families. As hostilities grow, friends, neighbors and outside forces join the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another Civil War. A three part mini-series.

If you're from the Appalachians and know the stories then try not to get your ass all chaffed by the inaccuracy of it. The feud ended in the last few years to give you an idea of how long it's been going on. I think they ended up playing a softball game together. It's a great watch. I don't know why people don't like Costner so much. He plays great mid to late 19'th century roles. Always has. And Tom Berenger is almost unrecognizable. Boy did he get fat. Bill Paxton was well cast as well. The children were too damned pretty though. If you ever go out around the mountains around here where mountain folk still exist you'll know what I mean. It's nice to see The History Channel finally put something on besides ridiculous alien or ghost conspiracy shows. This is a must see if you like historical nonfiction <mostly> centered around the mountains of the southern USA. I'm proud to say I grew up around these parts.

Why wold you vote my last comment down 50%? Seriously? EDIT : Just FYI my grandmothers name is Mabel Hatfield, and her grandfather was Devils Anse Hatfield. I grew up with the real stories and history of the fued first hand from her. I am a direct decendant of the character portrayed by Kevin Costner.

This was a really accurate representation. Have seen a lot of depictions of the fued over the years, glad somebody finally did it right. With great acting on top of the accuracy. And Kevin Costner as Anse, couldn't have been better!

Amazing! I am usually very, very easily distracted or take breaks while watching shows but not with this one. It was perfectly paced and just a great story. You could watch all six hours of it straight and not get bored. It was an epic story, and while not completely historically accurate, still awesome. I thought Costner was great in his performance. If you don't like this story then you don't deserve to watch TV ever again. Go back and watch your crappy CSI or generic CBS drama. This is what good TV is all about.

Very good so far, I mean they've taken some liberties but thats to be expected. still well worth the watch especially for History buffs. I have to say I've never understood why Kevin Costner hasn't made Westerns his whole career I understand wanting to diversify but He's always at his best when in a western, Open Range and Dances with the wolves were some of the best ever. Bill Paxton is spectacular in it as well. at first I didn't recognize Tom Berenger but after a few secs i said of thier he is LOL. can't wait to see how they pull off the big finale to the fued, for those who don't know the history i won't spoil it but trust me its pretty nuts. 8/10

I wanted to love this...after seeing trailers and reading articles that were at least vaguely comparing it to Deadwood. Ha...I know...nothing will ever be Deadwood. But this falls pretty short for me, even without the comparison. I feel like Costner's performance so far is pretty wooden, and I've never liked him much anyway. It's hard to really get into the characters at all, for me. Paxton is doing a good job, but he can't save the whole miniseries. I dunno...I've only watched Part I, so I'll watch the rest and write a follow up later.

A fantastic mini-series! Great look into American history and one of the worlds most documented feuds ever, these two families brought family honour and rivalries to the next level, surprised that it took over 100 years to call a truce.... Anyway back to the film, 8.5 out of 10, excellent cast and a very good interpretation of the history between the two clans. In my opinion and thought of my own I consider this mini-series to be on the same par as Band of Brothers, as for it to be classed as one of the best mini-series ever made, for those who DO know and for those who DON'T know anything about the history, it will definitely keep you glued and wanting to know more.... its one of those type of films that you would probably GOOGLE during or after the film.

According to Wiki, the comedian Jim Varney aka Earnest, wanted to film a version of this. "One of Varney's final projects was writing a screenplay about the legendary feud between the Hatfields and the McCoys, stating that his grandfather hunted squirrel with the McCoys."

Amazing Mini Series

this is a great mini-series. The show was wonderfully scripted, period costumes and old country hill homes were historically accurate. And the acting was exceptional; Costner and Winningham giving the best performances in my opinion. The story of the H & McC's is as old as time, and having lived in 2 of the bordering states for several years each, I heard about most of the feud lineage; this seemed fairly accurate to what I was told by the old folks. Be sure to watch after the last scene, as it goes into short detailed descriptions of the remaining family members and notes that an official peace treaty was signed in XXXXX [no spoiler from me '->.] Wow - long time feud. 9/10 - if you love civil war era history you will really enjoy this.
