This episode is kinda sad, soldiers should never be treated with such disrespect, but the episode also left out the mai lai massacre, a very shamefull and disgusting act by Americans.and another reason why soldier were called baby killers and spet on. despite what they believe america never did win the vietnam war, the goal was to stop the spread of comunism into south vietnam (something not worth dieing for anyway) and that goal was never acheived no land was taken and nothing was gained eccept mistrust. I feel sorry for anyone who fought in veitnam (including other countries Australia, New zealand, South Korea, canada etc) aplogies for any spelling mistakes or grammer errors.

Another home run documentary by Ken Burns.. No one does it better, regardless of the topic. I missed being drafted by a couple of years thank god!! Vietnam was always such a part of the cultural background when I was young. It's very interesting to see how all the pieces fit.. 5/5

My father was Vietnamese and he served with American soldiers in Vietnam. He came to the US in 1973 and I was born in the US in 1975. He's never spoken about his experiences during the war. This documentary is amazing and helped me to learn about his generation and his war.

Only problem with this documentary is how it tries to glorify the vietnam war. The only reason we went to war in the first place was a lie. Research the gulf of tonkin incident. It was an American false flag attack at its finest. Great documentary other than the glorification though.

Good rare footage, however, the Hollywood music and voice overs try and make this look like an action film. They also don't talk about the Gulf of Tonkin lie that got America into the war nor did they talk about the POWs who got left behind because America refused to pay billions in war reparations and then the cover up that followed.

According to the secret documents released by the U.S. gov't, there was a powerful force at work that pushed the United States into escalating the unofficial war in vn. President Kennedy immediately wanted to withdraw all U.S advisors out of vn after the CIA backed assassination of President Ngodinhdiem not committing troops. The results of Pres. Ngodinhdiem assassination produced so much problems politically and otherwise that the subsequent administration used it as a pretext to land troops in vn without south vn agreement. In fact, after Pres. Ngodinhdiem, the U.S blatantly acted like an imperialistic power without any regards to actually understand the problems on the ground and admitted defeat in 1973 with the Peace Agreement and abandoned south vn to the communists with deep military aids cuts that resulted in the lack of ammo and gas to hold off many division of north commies with advanced soviet military equipments and plenty of china knockoffs. Evidences suggested that if the U.S had continued the 1972 bombings for a few more weeks or days, north commies would have surrendered unconditionally without additional ground fighting. Must Read: Truth about assassination: CIA paid the revolting south vn generals Ngodinhdiem Praise and Blame by Minh Vo (english) 2003 Truth about Hamburger Hill: south vn units took the hill easily after the 101 airborne suffered heavy casualties. The vn counterparts reached the top of the hill before the U.S troops with little resistance and were order to get off for US airforce bomb run. Vietnam's Forgotten Army: Heroism and Betrayal in the ARVN by Andrew Wiest 2007 To the 58000 that loss their lives and many more who had served in vn: I salute you for your sacrifices. It's too bad the gov't leadership was abysmal. You actually did not have to be there or needed to be there in the first place. To the south vn army and soldiers: I salute you for fighting for so long with so many challenges such old weapons(using carbine against vc ak47 for a while), biased coverage in the media, stabbed in the back in the end by your ally, etc. I feel ashamed because of the unfulfilled promises of my gov't that cause your endless sufferings and enduring in concentration camps and continued communist restributions and revenges until today; especially the disabled south vn veterans. To the US media: congratulation you were the most effective tool and weapon of the communist block. way to go. To our citizens: hold your gov't accountable and intelligently question the effectiveness of the gov't foreign policy. get active and lobby. For example, The 1973 Yom Kippur War our gov't sent at least $1bil of military aids for the 6-day war. That's alot of money for 6-day operation in
