I much prefer this version to the earlier one. I will revisit this film every once in a while and it never seems to get old.

This was a series of books, 5 of them plus added and fill ins. About 14 in all. Remember reading them all as a teen. Epic story. The sheer scope covered in the books couldn't be matched in any tv/movie series. But this new series is going to the must watch, the first 3 will determine if they get it up to expectations. Thank you Public Libraries. A picture may be a 1000 words. But does NOT tell the story. Anyone that read The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings before seeing the movies will know what I mean. The imagination and good writing is much better than any CGI. The 1984 movie was utter rubbish. Go to your local library, get the proper story.

I remember when this aired on the Space Channel back in 2000 but i never watched it. I was a big fan of the original 3 hr movie and i didn't want it to be ruined by a cheap series...wow was i wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this! They were able to fill in some of the details that were missed in the original movie which was a nice surprise for me...in the first movie, they didn't really focus on the political side of things, all the little scheming that was going on...with all of that being covered in this, i enjoyed it much more...for me, the most epic scene of the first movie was when he made it rain on Arakis...gave me goosebumps every single time...i was slightly disappointed they didn't do this here ( i don't even know if it was part of the books, might have been a bit of the Hollywood touch there) but it was a powerful scene, a culmination of everything that had gone on showing WHO Paul Moa'dib truly was to those gathered..it would have been beautiful to see it here...anyways, i really enjoyed this, even for an almost 20 yr old show, and i am looking forward to watching Children of Dune next which came out 3 yrs after this show aired and is also supposed to be based on the book series and is supposed to be really good as well. I give this 3 part mini series a solid 8/10.
