Game of Thrones: Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue abound. The primary families are the Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon families. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard Stark to serve as his chief advisor. Eddard, suspecting that his predecessor had been murdered, accepts so that he can investigate further. It turns out more than one family is plotting to take the throne. The Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take control. Across the sea, the last surviving members of the previously deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also plotting a return to power. The conflict between these families and others, including the Greyjoys, the Tullys, the Arryns, and the Tyrells, leads to war. Meanwhile, in the north, an ancient evil awakens. Amidst war and the political confusion, a brotherhood of misfits, The Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and the horrors beyond.

The visuals are stunning. From the obvious low-quality stitch pillow cases of medieval times to months-old accumulation of candle wax dripping from the stone fire-place mantels will cause you to lose focus on the story. They planned everything. You try to ignore the detail, but you cannot help yourself. The complexity of relationships, betrayal and intrigue is enough to confuse this dim-witted action flick lover and slap me in the face while begging for more. Occasionally, the pace is slow but it's a trap. It builds up to important facts relative to a dramatic expose later while beguiling you to relaxation far more than you should. If you're not keen on sole drama vision they give you dragons and their own versions of the walking dead to contend and wars .. lots of wars. Everybody wants war while something more horrific prepares to come their way. The casting of characters must have been excruciating painful for the director as well as shooting. The result leaves one to admire, love and root for the discarded dwarf heir far greater than the precious and flawless innocence of the dragon mother sold to tribes by her brother for the throne and deserves it most of all. But you love her for vanity. You know you do. But the dwarf! You'll not only be confused by it, you'll be in love with the confusion. Definitely a MUST WATCH. This is a well-written novel with its pages popping to life right in a manner never portrayed on film. Can this be done again in the 3rd season? I doubt it. It is cast, directed and filmed so well Lord of the Rings-which is adorable to me-is light years behind. It's no spoiler. It's denser - very dense.

This is a quality series that I'd recommend highly. Wonderful scripting, stellar cast, excellent production - it's the whole package. If you love the TV series, please, please, PLEASE take the time to read the books - you'll love them as much as the show. There is so very much in them and, even though the series deviates at times from the books (there's no way you could fit it all in a TV series) this show has captured the essence of this epic saga and the script is so skilfully written that it always manages to converge at pivotal moments and so remain true to the spirit of the story. There are still two books to go in GRR Martin's saga A Song of Ice and Fire (the show is named after the first book), so there will be 7 in all(if old George manages to finish them off before he goes off to his final reward)and if you've only seen the TV series, you have many more twists to come! There will be times you'll be shaking your fist at him for killing a much loved character, there will be times you feel sympathy for a character you've hated and hate those you've loved... he's written such a rich and complex set of characters and events, you'll find yourself literally living the story at times. This is one series, both the books and the show, that will go down in history as a classic.

This is not just a show, it's an experience. It is so visually captivating that you almost feel as if you're living in the midst of it as one of the characters rather than just watching a television show. Yes, it's that good. Game of Thrones IS the greatest television show of all time.

Officially, the Number 1... lemme repeat that: THE NUMBER ONE - Best t.v. show in the history of film (so far). Period. Hands down. Done. No questions asked. If you [no matter who you are, as long as you're over 15] haven't seen this, See it right now, seriously!!! If you're hesitant, remove all doubts. This series is PURE GOLD. Allow yourself to be sucked into the "Realm"... ;) << *tear rolls* - for what happens in Season 1, Episode 9 [Sean Bean: Seems like I *** in everything] :'(

Ahhh the waiting is almost over! I can smell the dragons already!! Oh wait.. My mistake.. The musky dragon-stink came from my rather flatulent dogĀ“s behind! If chemical warfare was GOT canon, she would sit on the Iron Throne for sure!!

To keep myself from losing it, I had to rewatch the four seasons again. I really want to see the TV series first and then move on to the books, to keep the suspense, surprise, and many other emotions fresh, then move onto the books for comparison and detail. To say the least, I am very much in love with this show.

As with most page-to-screen translations the books are by far superior, but in terms of a product made for Television this series in terms of man hours put in, effort and detail are all superior and a new benchmark for television to aspire to. Whether you like fantasy/intrigue or not, as watcher of televised arts this series is worth watching.
