Haha. I think it is so funny to hear the discussion about English and accents. Yes it is English - but with a load of slang that most Americans aren't familiar with and thick accents. I'm pretty familiar and used to a myriad of accents, and it still took me a bit to tune my ear to it. However, expose yourself to the sound of it for a while. It isn't that hard to adapt to the accents and the slang gets used again and again and you can figure it out in context. I like both versions, but the UK is more like a comedy with some added drama and the US version is more like a drama with some comedy thrown in.

I started with the American version of this show, and I really have grown to feel for those characters, and the show in general. William H. Macy's acting is spot on to the original Frank, and you can't go wrong with Joan Cusack's version of Sheila! It is really interesting to see the similarities between both versions, but because I have grown to enjoy the American version so much I find it hard for the UK version to appeal to me. I am really giving it a solid try, and if you really tune your ear to the slang and the accents, it's not that hard to follow along. Maybe it was all those years watching Coronation Street with my grandmother LOL!

Watching this made me wonder, do the British have the same trouble trying to understand American slang words. Doctor Who and The Fades haven't prepared me well enough for this show yet.

The people saying they can't understand what they're saying in the UK Shameless make me sad. It's English... How can Americans not understand English? The UK version is the greatest thing ever on television. The US version is just a parody. It lacks the gritty realness of the original. There's just some things that don't transfer over...Manchester culture is something you just can't Americanize.

Theres a movie from the Producers of Shameless called 'Mischief Night' which stars some of the Shameless cast, Yvonne being the main character.

just watched series 1, after binging the U.S. version to date. this version feels like a condensed version, even though it's the original version. the narrative is the same for both, of course, but it seems, from comments, one prefers the version they watch first. for myself, both versions are equally enjoyable and unique in their own particular ways.

I sampled this version before the American version and instantly fell in love. I tried to watch the American version and wasn't too keen. It felt like they were trying to hard to recapture everything in all the wrong ways. I however missed watching Shameless and decided to give the American version another go. It's actually something I enjoy watching regularly. I very much encourage everyone watch the UK version first. (Sidenote, the Christmas special was actually very odd)
