OMG...The first Perry Mason recorded or broadcast in color, how cool is that? But, you'll notice that the incredible lighting effects used in black and white are still being used. I'm wrong. The color episodes were all filmed in black and white, with the exception of 'The Twice Told Twist', this episode. Which,of course, explains the lighting. I can't however find any information on why this episode was filmed in color...but, would love to know. If anyone on the site knows, I would love to see it posted here. This episode aired on February 27, 1966. At this time I was 14 yrs old and the first color television in my family, my grandmother's had been around for a little over 4 yrs. Reruns were sporadic, and of course cable, VHS and DVDs weren't even a glimmer in Daddy's eye, let alone pause and rewind. Woe to the child who interrupted a loved television show, since it was likely to be the only time it could be watched. Hence the advertising strategy for commercials was to make them louder than the show, because they knew people were running for the bathroom or to get another cup of coffee or something else urgent. Watching TV back at that time was a way to fill your day, it was an actual family event, an actual family activity. Look where we are now. Wow.
