Truly amazing show. The American version can not even begin to compare to this British masterpiece.

I remember the trailers for this show on TV and I thought WTF? This looks like the dumbest idea for a show ever. Decided to check out the first offering anyway as it was John Simm and it turned out to be one of the best shows I've ever seen. It IS a dumb idea but it so works anyway; largely due to the chemistry between the two leads. Having said that, the spin off Ashes To Ashes turned out to be the crappy show I feared this would be. They are poles apart, and as for the American version? Ouch.

Just finished the 1st season; reading though the comments I see a strong debate over the merits of the US vs. the UK version. I think both shows have strong merits if one considers the differences in our respective cultures. I think I like the US version better mainly b/c I remember the 1970s on this side of the pond and I've had exposure to the history of our police culture and how it has changed - something I don't have for the British police culture. That makes it easier for me to get into the US version. I will tend to agree however that most US remakes of UK shows are sadly lacking in quality - this just seems to be the exception that proves the rule.

okay, that's it. clearly, we remake EVERY SINGLE successful british show into an american one with shit results. can we stop please it's getting embarrassing.

Turned out to be one of my favorite shows. Although the plot is a bit confusing and odd the characters are what make the show. I seriously recommend watching it. 10/10

The UK version is probably one of my best discoveries, picked up on because I'm such a huge Bowie fan. Gotta buy this, the american version was shit, but still the best cop show we ever aired.

Brilliant crime drama with a touch of scifi, starring John Simm and Philip Glenister, with a killer sound track. Do not miss this if you appreciate excellent writing and top-notch acting. Rare 5/5 from me and straight into my faves. Thank you uplinkers.

Before watching the show i did a little search on Google on which show is better the UK one or the US show, most people told me to watch the UK show for some reason and since i never seen this show i took their advice and started watching the UK show up to the fourth episode, with all do respect to all of you Brits out there i didn't like it much the show was so cheesy the storyline was good but the interaction between the characters was shallow the dialog was bad and the way they lead their investigations was childish there is no way in hell a police officer would be such an idiot going into dangerous situations without back up with out any weapons facing armed suspects that's just dump, I think most of you in here liked this series (the UK on) because you have seen it first and a lot of you may want to watch the other series ashes to ashes which seems connected to this one, but overall the US Life On Mars was epic way way more better then this crap, I have seen the whole 17 episodes in one stand it was awesome, when it comes to serious police investigations series the Brits sucks, I love their comedy its brilliant spy is one hell of a show their fantasy shows like Merline and Atlantis are great, but don't waste your time with this one. and by the way each time there is a remake of a Brit show go directly and watch the US one without wasting your time.
