I watched this show back in the day and loved it! George cracked me up and, yeah, the character who played his mother is a riot! If you haven't seen it, then just watch an episode or two and see what you think. You have your own opinion, so don't let yourself be swayed by what someone else thinks.

I used to watch this and the only funny character had to be the grandma. George Lopez is not funny to me, he's too much of a hispanic stereotype. All his jokes revolve around him looking crazy, being loud, and speaking in a hispanic accent. The best thing this show did was bringing a hispanic sitcom on American television.

I really hate this show. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with children or trying to raise a respectful child. The father insults his mother, wife, children, friends, and wonders why his entire family is dysfunctional. Not to mention how it portrays Hispanics and/or Latinos as loud, crass, and rude. Every time it airs as a re-run I cringe and wonder how anyone can watch this without weeping. I can't imagine talking to my mother or father the way the children speak to their parents. Or how George spends most of the episodes feeling sorry for himself and blaming his mother for his own shortcomings. He doesn't treat his wife much better either. Gone are the days when fathers on television were portrayed as respectful, attentive, loving members of their communities and their families. Shame on George Lopez for this. :(
