Mohabbatein - 1 year, 12 months ago
Three young men arrive at a famous private school in India, Gurukul. Gurukul is run by a stern headmaster named Narayan Shankar, played by Amitabh Bachchan. The headmaster has instituted a strict anti-romance policy. Students are there to learn, he says, not to party and flirt. Students who become romantically involved will be expelled. The three of them all have their hearts set on different girls. Sameer works in a café and is in love with his long time friend Sanjana. Unfortunately for Sameer, she has a boyfriend. Vikram accidentally bumps into Ishika when he catches her stealing apples from the Gurukul gardens, and falls in love at first sight. Karan sees Kiran on a hill when he is waiting for a train. Kiran is married to an Army Officer who never returned from war, yet she holds hope that he is alive. The three of them, encouraged by Raj Aryan, their music teacher, follow their hearts and break the rules of the school. As the story unravels, the three boys fall in love and the relationship between the headmaster and the music teacher begins to become strained. Much to the chagrin of the headmaster, Raj begins to implement many changes. It is revealed the Raj was once also a student in Gurukul, who fell in love with the headmasters daughter, Megha played by Aishwarya Rai. When Narayan found out he banned them from seeing each other, and after Megha tried consoling her father she became upset and ultimately committed suicide by throwing herself out the window. This tragic experience inspired Raj to spread love throughout Gurukul, and in the end, Narayan Shankar realizes that love and change are necessary.
Amarkanth Varma is employed with All India Radio as a reporter who is dispatched to cover festivities in the northeastern part of India. While waiting for a train at a remote and isolated railway station, he comes across an attractive young woman who refuses to help him. Both meet again, and this time she asks him to leave her alone because she says that she is married. Thereafter, her relatives severely beat up Amarkanth. He finds out during the beating that, in fact, she is unmarried. On his recovery he is unable to get her out of his mind. They meet again, and this time she identifies herself as his wife, even tells him to call her Meghna, and both become fairly intimate on a bus journey. Then the next day she vanishes. His search for her is in vain. Heartbroken and under pressure from his family, he agrees to marry a woman named Preeti Nair. On the day of his engagement to Preeti, Meghna shows up at his house and asks him to let her and a friend stay there for a few days. Amarkanth's family readily agrees, not knowing that this time Meghna has come with a private and deadly agenda of her own that will shake the very roots of the Varma family and India as a whole.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is exactly what you would expect from the title. A ridiculous, over-the-top, and fun action-horror flick. The serious tone and silly premise may turn off some people, but the serious tone actually works to the films advantage and actually made the movie more fun. I actually think a goofy and comedic tone could've hurt the films in some ways by being a bit too tongue and cheek. The action scenes were well done and incredibly entertaining to watch. The final action scene was actually worth the price of admission alone. I also enjoyed how they included actual parts of Lincoln's history into the film. Benjamin Walker also surprisingly did a good job as Lincoln. The dialogue is corny but I actual think that played as a strength to a film rather than a weakness. The 3D effects are also used very well in the film and delivers a good mix of depth and gimmicky moments and really enhanced the action sequences. I would highly recommend seeing the film in 3D if you have the option. If I had any complaints it would be that I did feel like the film dragged a bit in the middle. Overall, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fun flick that delivers on exactly what it promises. Abraham Lincoln kicking vampire ass! If you don't go in holding the films premise against it, than you'll have a blast with it!
Total Recall - 2 years ago
Total Recall - What a waste of money and talent! Unfortunately, none of these 2 aspects are a part of this film. You have high paid actors, 2 female A listers, a highly gross budget, and a lot of money spent for nothing! I am not sure what the purpose of remaking this film was for. The Swarzenneger original was a clever and entertaining film for it's time. If the original was bad, then I would understand why some studio would have an interest in remaking it. Building the creativity of the story. However, the original did it's part and for what market or audience it was originally intended for, the original did the trick and this is just a sloppy makeover. A film of this kind has but one purpose - to hopefully, ride the coat-tails of the original (without really adding anything clever) in order to try and build up the bank bucks on another unnecessary sequel. Shame on you!
