One of my favorite films of all time. Great characters all around, realistic action, ridiculously crazy plot, and some hilarious antics. Makes Hunger Games look like Family Feud. 10/10 And to the silly saying which is reminiscent, Hunger Games was written in 2008, 8 years after this was released, and this was based on a novel completed in 1996 :l Hunger Games author just totally stole her idea from this film, and did a piss poor adaptation at that. HG is the Disney version of BR.

This makes The Hunger Games look like Twilight. When it comes to the theme, acting and overall delivery I would say this is one of the best Japanese films this side of the millenium.

This makes Hunger Games looks like a kitten compared to this royal lion of a movie.

After reading all the comments about this movie, i decided to watch it about 2 month ago and i am sure glad i did, this fascinating, brilliant and unique film asks the question of, how far will people go to survive? would you kill to live? even if it is your best friend, then takes you on a dark, Violent, yet wonderfully atmospheric journey that is creepy, disturbing, sad and even at times a bit funny, with the finest ensemble performances you'll see from such a young cast to takes a look at how far people will go to stay alive. BATTLE ROYALE is an instant classic and a cinematic gem with a great concept, wonderful cinematography and an Absolutely brilliant cast. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT if you like (psychological thriller) 5/5, stagevu has the special extended version.

I remember watching this with my mother, about 10 years ago. I couldn't initially get into the Hunger Games having seen this first, and I imagine the opposite is true for those who've watched Battle Royale second. This film was mind-blowing at the time, I remember trying to explain the premise to my classmates, with them in a circle around me... Maybe the younger generation just can't relate to this now, but I will say this is definitely worth a watch, whatever your age.

Another example of an excellent film. The story is captivating and the action is in your face intense. It will have your mind racing the entire film. If you haven't seen this film then you're in for a treat. Get ready to read those subtitles, because it's worth it. Grab your seat because you may need it at some point. I'll give this film a 6/5 for pure awesomeness.

So much better than Hunger Games! Of course I was prepared for this film to be not as good as the book but it's very good.

I'm gonna sound bias, but so much more better then the hunger games imo. I love both, but this one just captures the horror of kids killing kids. Of friends killing friends, it really captured that horror. This also had a richer and denser story, ala the manga and book which are far more gruesome and sexual. Plus the story of the hunger games had potentional but flaws, like seriously, its just that in 74-75 years after the hunger games were enacted people finally found how awful it was from a silly love story, which btw was better defined in battle royale. good film

Such a good movie - it's been a few years since i have seen this but still made a big impression on me. Remakes really don't hold up to this one. A must see (imo)

Battle Royale does have a lot in common with the hunger games; and I wondered all through the bloody action, empathized with the characters, trying to join together against the government, and being too paranoid to do that, what the author was really trying to say. Besides it being a great action picture, and having very sympathetic characters, who are very human, I think the author was trying to say that governments send our children to war, against each other and kill them all off. And that's the true meaning of the picture. And, that's pretty correct, that's what happens. For example, the Vietnam War was fought all by 19-year-olds pretty much. That was the medium age.19-year-old soldiers are still children. Also, there is a lot of emphasis on whether or not some of the characters can trust each other, or whether they're trying to fool each other, so they can kill each other off and be the last one. So trust and betrayal from someone you know, weighed heavily in this movie.unlike the hunger games, all the school children knew each other. So how can you kill off someone that you know and like? Very profound and bloody movie, but very entertaining. Not for children, too violent.

People who keep on comparing this to the hunger games - it's very different. I was a fan of battle royale before any of this hunger games stuff but after reading it then watching the film it really changed my opinion. The only thing that is similar is that these kids are forced to kill each other. There are many other films that are similar. what about the running man? or the truman show (in the arena scenes) keep in mind that people also did this back in ancient times with gladiators for entertainment. History repeats itself people. If i didn't watch any romantic comedies because let's face it they're all basically 'girl like boy. doesn't realise the right guy is her best friend till the end' then that's stupid. Yes they have the basic concept that connects it but after that it's so different Coming from an open minded person

I first watched this a few years ago then immediately went out and bought the book, which is highly unusual for me, and enjoyed it thoroughly as well. Then i gave the hunger games a chance and hated everything about it, fuck you hunger games fans i will kill you and piss on your graves.BATTLE ROYALE!!!

Obviously, it is so similar to the hunger games though I know this came out first. It feels darker and a lot less story-driven than I thought it would be. I guess it's mostly about the message and shock for the viewer. Glad I saw it!

An instant classic for film fans. Lord of the flies has nothing on this classroom survival tale. Any fan of violence needs this movie in their life lol. 5/5
