As stated in the November 1980 Black Belt magazine interview, titled "Kumite: A Learning Experience," the real Frank Dux did in fact attend and win the 1975 Kumite, weighing in as a heavyweight. His experience became the inspiration for this movie. It should be noted that the BDFS (Black Dragon Fighting Society) acknowledges Frank Dux's championship titles and world records, which are listed on their South African website. This is without a doubt JCVD's best movie Those who believe that the Kumite was a fantastic exaggeration need only to fast-forward thirty plus years to the Mixed Martial Art cage fight genre of today, as CNBC reporter Scott Wapner points out during the segment "From Bloodsport to Blue Chip." Wapner explains that the Kumite essentially gave birth to today's publicly recognized MMA.

5/5 Van Damme classic... even if the alleged true story upon which the film is based has been called into question many times. And who can ever forget OK, U. S. A!!! It never gets old LOL.

Hey, what more is there to say than, it's a Jean Claude Van Damme movie and I love it! This is a classic in the terms of martial arts movies. Yes these days there are better choreographed fight scenes, but this still draws you in and keeps you watching. Bolo Yeung plays a very menacing villain and Forest Whittaker is great as an over confident, cocky agent. Watch it if you can.

Ok this movie is not a true story. watch frank dux videos and demos. .Any one can tell specially if you have been in any legit martial art he is a con man on a comedic level using cool costumes martial arts not related to ninjitsu or any style i recognize, prop glass and cut boards . But the movie itself is very well done great music by Paul Hertzog and good fights i give it a 5 out of 5 for its time.

Growing up I watched this movie so many times. I got really into it. I remember my cousins and I used to imitate this movie when we would "play fight". One of my favorite Van Damme movies.

I used to watch this movie as a kid. Reminded me of a real life Mortal Kombat is some ways. Still stands up today as a good pure fighting movie. Oh and when he is doing the splits in the hotel room, it hurt me too just watching that.

This movie put Van Damme on the map despite a poor supporting cast and a low budget. Still, it has one of the best fight scenes.

This is one of Van Damme's Best movies. I love it. Good acting, nice plot, and lets not forget the action. 4/5 Stars.

Van Damme's body as auteur. A pure Van Damme fight film, not "art" like Universal Soldier: Regeneration or In Hell, not thematic, but expressive posture. This film feels like a connection to what I consider the three great Van Damme precursors: Buster Keaton, Bruce Lee, and Gene Kelly
